Heritage

Founded in 1993 when Glasgow Polytechnic merged with The Queen’s College, Glasgow, the university can trace its roots from those institutions back to 1875. Today, GCU regularly features among the UK’s top ten modern universities and has a vibrant, compact campus ideally situated in the heart of Glasgow.

Support for talented athletes takes many forms from personal training, nutritional advice and sports massage to developing flexible learning routes through academic study. Financial assistance towards competing at a high level is also available. Sports facilities

GCU has an incredibly vibrant sports scene, much of it centred on the Arc, the university’s health and fitness facility. Here you will find two sports halls and three spacious gyms with a good selection of essential training equipment including Olympic bars and weights. Elsewhere, students compete at regional, national and international level across a range of sports from badminton and basketball to martial arts, hockey and football.

Academic courses

Key academic strengths at GCU are health, the environment and business. In addition, the university’s mission ‘for the common weal’ is reflected in particular emphasis on social entrepreneurship and social justice.
